Terms of Use
Last updated: 15 August 2026
By using clauseandcollect.docsanddeadlines.com ("this site"), you agree to the terms below. If you do not agree, please stop using the site.
What this site is
Clause & Collect publishes independent written guides for self-employed freelancers about the paperwork chain between agreeing to a job and being paid for it: what individual contract clauses do, how a scope of work and change orders are written, how invoice terms are structured, what steps exist when an invoice goes unpaid, and what state and city freelancer protection statutes say on their face.
It is an information site and nothing else. It is not a law firm, not a collections agency, not a factoring company, and not a debt collector, and it does not act for anyone. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any software vendor, agency, marketplace, or government body named on it; agencies and statutes are cited because they are the source, not because there is any relationship. This site carries no affiliate links, no sponsored articles, and no paid placement, and it does not sell services or refer you to anyone who does.
No professional advice
Content here is general information, not professional advice.
Nothing on this site is legal advice, and reading it creates no lawyer–client relationship of any kind — the author is not a lawyer. Pages describing statutes such as the Illinois Freelance Worker Protection Act or New York's Freelance Isn't Free Act summarise published text and link to it so you can read it yourself. They do not tell you whether a statute covers your situation, whether you have a claim, what your contract means, or what any agency or court will decide. Whether a rule applies turns on facts, dates, and jurisdiction that only a qualified adviser licensed where you are can assess.
Nothing here is tax or accounting advice. Forms such as the W-9 and 1099 are discussed only as paperwork required before a client's payment system will process an invoice, never as guidance on how income should be reported or treated.
Nothing here is a template you should file or send unread. Demand letters, contract language, change orders, and complaint forms described on this site are illustrations of structure, not documents drafted for your matter. Deadlines are unforgiving: claim periods, notice requirements, and filing limits are short, vary by jurisdiction, and can be lost permanently by waiting. Decisions about your own contracts, money, and deadlines remain yours.
Accuracy and currency
Guides are researched against official sources and dated on publication. Even so:
- Freelancer protection law is new and still changing. States and cities are passing, amending, and starting to enforce these statutes as this site is being written; dollar thresholds, deadlines, covered work, and remedies differ between jurisdictions and can change with a single amendment. Every statutory page carries an effective date, the enforcing agency, and the date it was last checked — treat those dates as the shelf life of the page, and confirm against the agency before you rely on anything.
- Court limits and procedures change too. Small claims ceilings, filing fees, service rules, and interest and late-fee limits are set locally and are frequently revised.
- A guide reflects the situation at the date shown on it, not necessarily today.
- Errors happen.
No warranty is given that content is accurate, complete, or current. If you find something wrong, please report it via the contact page — corrections are made promptly.
